SRINAGAR — Authorities have imposed strict restrictions in the interiors of Shia-dominated Zadibal area of Srinagar and blocked roads to prevent Muharram processions.

Shia Muslims would take out mourning processions during the month before 1990’s. However, Muharram processions have been banned since militancy erupted in Kashmir Valley.

Normal life has seen several disruptions in Kashmir since August 5, and then due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Locals said that strict restrictions are in place in the interiors of Zadibal area of Srinagar. “Last year, we witnessed severe restrictions but today the restrictions were such that even womenfolk were not allowed to cross the barricades,” said a local from Zadibal.
