Multilevel car parking in Srinagar shortly

Srinagar, April 13: A Multilevel Car Parking (MCP) is coming up in the busy civil lines of this summer capital to combat parking problems which often lead to traffic jams.
Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (J&K ERA) started work on the construction of multilevel mechanised car parking facility at Lal Chowk (KMDA Adda) at a cost of Rs 26.75 crore.
Work on the state-of-the-art multilevel car parking facility which is first of its kind in the state was started in presence of Chief Executive Officer, J&K ERA, Saurabh Bhagat, officials said here today.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 26.75 crore and will be spread over an area of 3,472 square meters. It would include construction of five level automated puzzle type mechanised parking facility along with three storied commercial complex comprising of office space, public toilet and commercial space (shops) for rehabilitation of KMDA office and other shopkeepers presently existing at site.
On completion, it would provide hassle-free parking facility for cars in the city centre and prevent frequent clogging of traffic in the city hub which also leads to unnecessary wastage of expensive fuel besides increasing levels of air pollution. It would also pave the way for smooth movement of vehicles and improve long term traffic management in the city hub by preventing road side parking and providing safe, secure and efficient vehicular movement inside as well as outside parking facility.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the first week of April between Vice-Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority and J&K ERA for handing over of site (KMD Adda) which is presently with the SDA for construction of parking facility.
The contract for this sub-project has been bagged by M/s Simplex Projects Limited, a national level company having a wealth of experience in the construction of such projects.
