PULWAMA — Common people in the Pulwama district are suffering as the Municipal Committee Pulwama is dumping garbage along the circular road in the town.
Locals told the news agency KNO that the Municipal Committee is collecting garbage from different areas in Pulwama town but they throw it along the circular road near Government Degree College for Women.
The stench emanating from garbage causes inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians, locals said.
Younis Ahmad, a local resident, said that heaps of garbage collected from the entire town are dumped here which is very close to the residential area. Besides stinking, it attracts stray dogs as well.
“There is a threat for our children as street dogs are roaming freely and they have already bitten several persons,” said Zeeshan Ahmad, a local.
Locals said that there are many places where the civic body could have dumped garbage but they are at loss for the reason behind choosing the circular road.
President Municipal Committee Pulwama Bilal Ahmad told KNO that they have already identified a new dumping site in Newa. He said that a waste management plant is coming up there so that garbage can be treated scientifically and 21 kanals of land have already been allotted.
