
BANDIPORA — A newly recruited Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant from south Kashmir’s Shopian district was on Tuesday arrested along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here, the spokesman said that police in Bandipora along with security forces have arrested one militant of LeT and recovered live arms and ammunition from his possession.
The statement said based on a specific input regarding the presence of militants in Check Chandrageer area for subversive activities, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was conducted in Check Chandrageer area of Hajin town by Bandipora Police, 13RR, and C Coy IRP 8th Bn where one militant identified as Subzar Ahmad Rather @ Aatish Bhai of Awneera Shopian was arrested.
Incriminating material along with the live arms and ammunition (one 9mm pistol along with pistol magazine and 4 live rounds) were recovered from the possession of the militant, police said, adding that he had joined the LeT recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Hajin locality.
The statement added that in this connection, a case FIR under relevant Sections of law has been registered in Police Station Hajin and investigation has been initiated.
