SRINAGAR — A non-local labourer was killed and another was injured after many under-construction power projects came under a snow avalanche in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday afternoon.
Reports reaching here said that the snow avalanche hit Rayil area of Kangan. In the incident, two non-local labourers working in the under-construction power projects were swept away by the snow avalanche.
Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched and both the labourers were rescued in critical conditions, they said.
They added, “However, one of them was declared dead by the doctors who attended him.”
The deceased was identified as Surinder Singh (48) of Pathankot. The injured, namely Boby Singh (45), was referred to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
They said that the power projects have suffered damage and the quantum of which would be assessed later.
A police officer confirmed the death of the non-local labourer as well as injury to another and said that the snow mass struck the area at around 4:25 PM. He said that a rescue operation was immediately launched.
