One militant killed as gunfight rages in Baramulla

BARAMULLA — A Pakistani militant of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been killed in an encounter with government forces in north Kashmir’s Kreeri area, officials said on Saturday.

Police identified the militant who was killed in the gunbattle in Saloosa Kreeri area of Baramulla district as Anees alias Chota Sultan from Pakistan.

A police official said that the slain militant was active in Valley since 2018 and was operating in some parts of north including Sopore, Zainageer and Bandipora.

One AK-47 and 5 magazines were recovered from the encounter site.

He said the encounter took place following specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar confirmed the killing of Pakistani militant in the encounter.
