Police arrest 6 persons, recover 8 rifles, 77 grenades from Keran

KERAN — Jammu Kashmir Police after arresting over six persons have managed to recover a cache of arms and ammunition in Keran area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Police sources said that from past week, Sopore Police arrested five persons in connection with militancy related incidents. On their questioning, a team of Special Operations Group led by a DSP-rank officer in Sopore arrested a man whom sources identified as Nisar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Keran. He was arrested from Awthkol, Meeyal area of Kralpora.

Sources added that on the revelations made by the detained man, Sopore Police assisted by Kupwara Police proceeded towards border town of Keran and unearthed a dump where arms and ammunition were found.

A police official said it is a big jolt to those who are keen to revive militancy in border district of Kupwara. He confirmed that from past one week, at least six youth have been arrested who were working as over ground workers for militants.

The official said that from the dump, they recovered eight AK assault rifles, nine pistols, 77 grenades and over 1000 rounds.
