Police arrests ‘thief who stole mobile phones’ at SKIMS

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a thief involved in stealing cell phones from the attendants and patients at SKIMS, Soura in Srinagar.

An official said that Aijaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar resident of Haigam, Sopore, presently residing at Waheedpora, Ganderbal has confessed to the crime.

He said that they have recovered 19 mobile phones and around three lakh rupees from the accused.

The official said that they were getting numerous complaints of mobile thefts from people who were visiting SKIMS, Soura for treatment.

“A case under First Information Report (FIR) No. 10/2019 U/S 379 RPC was lodged at Police Station Soura and investigation has been taken-up,” he said.

The official further said that a team headed by sub-inspector Waseem Jehangir under the supervision of SDPO Hazratbal Rameez Rashid Bhat was formed to solve the mobile theft cases.

He said that the police team utilized various methods and sources to arrest the suspect and during questioning, he confessed to his involvement in the theft cases.

“During questioning, the accused confessed that he used to steal from patients and attendants, who used to wait to obtain OPD tickets,” he said.
