Police officer among six injured in Pattan grenade attack

Pattan: Suspected militants hurled a grenade on a naka party in Pattan town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wedneday.

Station House Officer Pattan said that grenade exploded with a bang resulting in the injuries of three persons including a top police officer.

Injured were rushed to SDH Pattan where from they were shifted to Army Hospital Wanigam Pattan.

SSP Baramulla, Mir Imtiyaz Hussain along with other officers rushed to spot to assess the situation.

Injured were identified as Zafar Mehdi – DySp Operation Pattan, Shabir Ahmad – SPO, Ashiq Ahmed – SPO, Syed Jahangir, Barman – CRPF SI and Muhammad Asif – SPO.

Reports said that two among the injured cops were rushed to Srinagar based Army hospital for specialized treatment.

“The grenade was lobbed at Naka Party near Baba Teng. The militant who threw the grenade tried to flee from the spot was chased and arrested. He was identified as Faizan Majeed Bhat of Naibug Tral who was recruited into militant ranks recently. He along with other militant Showkat Ahmed Bhat of Awantipora, who managed to escape from spot had joined Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen recently,” said a police official. (CNS)
