Srinagar, Nov 26: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Saturday termed the police statement about the November 11, Sopore incident as its political game.
“It is unfortunate that the police have so far failed to arrest the military intelligence sleuth who had come in the public meeting at Sopore with a weapon either to cause harm to Syed Ali Shah Geelani or to disrupt the public meeting and jeopardize the lives of common civilians,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat in a statement today.
“It was a test case for police. We had submitted a memorandum to the police station, Sopore demanding arrest of the military intelligence sleuth Naik Kamlesh Kumar Sharma and a thorough investigation into the matter under law. But the police did not take it seriously and tried to apportion the blame for the whole matter on a youth who put his life at stake to save the life of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other people. Had the police arrested the MI sleuth, it would encourage the youth who averted the occurrence of any disaster thereby saving the life hundreds of people. There is no restriction or prohibition on such pro-human acts in the world.”
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat Conference has condemned the restrictions imposed on the Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s movement and political activities by the government.
The Hurriyat has also condemned the trashing of journalists and arrest of dozens of youth in downtown Srinagar on Friday by the police, terming it a worst example of ‘state terrorism’.
