Pulwama militant arrested in injured condition in Anantnag

ANANTNAG — The militant, whose wife died recently due to cardiac arrest, was injured in a shootout with Army here in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The militant, identified as Zahoor Ahmed who is affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be critical.

Divulging information about the shootout, an Army official said that a Joint Mobile Vehicle Interception Post (MVIP) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army was established at Naina Sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

“A motorcycle approached the MVIP and it was signaled to stop. The pillion rider fired seven to eight rounds on the MVIP party. In a retaliatory fire by Joint MVIP party, the pillion rider was hit and he fell from the bike,” the statement said.

It added, “The rider fled away from the location while the injured militant was admitted to District Hospital, Janglat Mandi, Anantnag.”

The Army said that the injured militant was in possession of a pistol and two rounds.

Army said that the injured militant went absconding from Srinagar in November 2020 and he had recently released a ‘propaganda’ audio clip on social media after his wife passed away due to cardiac arrest. He has two teenage children.

The injured militant is a resident of Inder village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Police sources said that Zahoor Ahmed had gone missing after the killing of Hizb Commander, Dr Saifullah in Rangreth area of Srinagar outskirts.
