SRINAGAR — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday reached Srinagar for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
This is Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. He was sent back from Srinagar Airport to Delhi when he, along with other leaders, tried to visit Kashmir after the annulment of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Congress leaders including Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Ghulam Ahmed Mir, former union minister Saifuddin Soz, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed and others welcomed his visit to Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi, during his two-day visit, will inaugurate the party’s Jammu and Kashmir headquarters and meet Congress workers. Besides, he will attend the wedding of the son of J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
A Congress leader said that on August 10, he will inaugurate the headquarters of the J&K unit of the Congress and address a meeting of party workers and leaders in the Union Territory.
Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit some religious places as well.
