Raise Human Rights violations issue at international forums: Mirwaiz to OIC

Srinagar: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has asked Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to raise the issue of human rights violations committed in Jammu and Kashmir at international forums.
A Hurriyat (M) spokesman in a statement here said, Mirwaiz met the leaders of the OIC contact Group on Kashmir at Geneva and apprised them about the ground situation in Kashmir. “He urged the OIC to raise Kashmir issue at the Human Rights Council, and other UN bodies, more frequently and to assist the people of Kashmir in achieving justice,” he said.
Assuring the contact group that the people of Kashmir would not rest until self-determination was granted and human rights abuses were ceased, Mirwaiz requested the OIC to undertake new initiatives.
Mirwaiz, according to the spokesman, highlighted the peaceful nature of the ongoing struggle.
Barrister Tramboo who along with Prof Nazir Ahmad Shawl were also present on the occasion, the spokesman said.
He said they asked the OIC to undertake more work on the Kashmir conflict and to raise the issue at both the Human Rights Council and the Security Council at all opportunities.
The OIC Contact Group members, according to the spokesman, assured Mirwaiz and others of their unwavering support for the cause of the Kashmiri people and discussed the ways in which the Kashmir issue could be brought to the forefront of both the Human Rights Council and OIC dialogue.
The members of the Contact Group who were present included Zamir Akram, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva, Oguz Demiralp Ambassador of Turkey to the United Nations in Geneva and Abdul wahab Abdul salam Attar Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in Geneva.
