Sand miner drowns in Jhelum River in Pulwama

SRINAGAR — A man lost his life while excavating sand from the Jhelum River in Kakapora Hajibal area of southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday morning.

Unnamed officials, quoted by the news agency JKNS, said that the incident occurred early morning when a sand miner lost his life while excavating sand from the Jhelum River in Hajibal, Kakapora.

He was identified as Raqib Ahmad, son of Mohammad Ismail Dar, a resident of Hajibal and currently living in Lethpora area of Kakapora. Despite efforts to rescue him, he could not be saved.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been taken up by the local police in this connection.
