SRINAGAR — Police on Saturday said that it arrested seven persons involved in killing farm fish in Bathnoor Shahoora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

In a handout to the news agency GNS, the police said that on February 13, Police Post Lassipora received a written complaint from a person Manzoor Ahmad Mir son of Ab Salaam Mir, resident of Bathnoor Shahoora, in which he stated that some unknown persons have mixed some poisonous substance in water due to which thousands of fishes died in his fish farm at Bathnoor area of Litter Pulwama.

The spokesperson further stated that upon this information, a case FIR No. 9/2023 U/S 428 IPC was registered at Police Station Litter and an investigation was taken up. During the course of the investigation of the case, by utilizing technical and human resources, many suspects were called for questioning from where it came to the surface that some persons have used bleaching powder for catching fish at the canal which acted as a source of water for said fish farm, due to which the farm fish got killed.

All the accused persons involved in the act have been arrested. “The general public of the area has hailed the role of police for timely action against the accused persons,” reads the statement.
