Shopkeeper injured after shot at by gunmen in Kulgam

SRINAGAR — Unknown gunmen shot at a 24-year-old youth at Turigam area of Yaripora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday evening, officials said.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Gurinderpal Singh said that militants fired upon a person namely Waseem Ahmad Mir (24), son of Mohammad Amin Mir and has been shifted to Anantnag hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Waseem, a shopkeeper by profession, suffered bullet wounds in his both legs. Soon after the incident, the officer said that security forces have launched a hunt to nab the assailants.

“Police has also taken cognizance of the incident and further investigations taken up,” the officer said.

However, Police, Army and CRPF have cordoned the area and search operation is in progress. “In this connection, a case under FIR number 24/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Yaripora and investigation taken up,” officials said.
