SIU files chargesheet against five militant associates in Shopian

SRINAGAR — Special Investigation Unit of Police on Wednesday presented a chargesheet against five militant associates before a court in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

According to a statement issued to the news agency KNS, the chargesheet was filed in case FIR No. 83/2022 U/S 17, 18, 20, 23 and 39 UA (P) Act, 7/25 I.A. Act.

The statement reads the accused persons include Aaqib Hussain Nanda, Gowhar Manzoor Bhat, Aasif Lateef, Afloq Yousuf Digoo and Umer Hussain Dar — all residents of Pulwama. “They were part of conspiracy well hatched by accused active militants Raqeeb-Ullah, resident of Pakistan and accused Late Uzair Ashraf of Shopian of LeT outfit,” it reads.

It reads that last year, militants associates of LeT namely Gowhar Manzoor Bhat and Aaqib Hussain Nanda were apprehended at a checkpoint jointly in Gulabtang Keller.

“From their possession, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, cash was recovered by the joint party. During the investigation, three more associates namely Asif Lateef, Afloq Yousuf and Umer Hussain Dar were arrested besides the involvement of a militant namely Uzair Ashraf (now killed) also surfaced,” it added.

It reads that during the course of further investigation, it has been found that the accused persons were working as associates on the instance of a Pakistan-based active militant.

“The investigation conducted has revealed that the accused persons had developed links with the active militants and were providing them all kinds of support knowingly. They were found active supporters of LeT,” it reads.

It added that SIU Shopian will continue the investigation on other parts of the case so that accused persons are produced before the court for justice.
