Soldier dies in accidental firing incident on Srinagar outskirts

SRINAGAR — A soldier lost his life due to alleged accidental firing in the Rawalpora area of Srinagar outskirts, officials said.

According to officials, the soldier was part of the army’s Road Opening Party (RoP) when his service rifle went off unexpectedly, resulting in his injuries. He was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started an investigation.

In similar incidents, soldiers have lost their lives due to accidental discharges, friendly fire, or equipment malfunctions in Jammu and Kashmir.
