Soldier killed after avalanche hits Army post in Kupwara

KUPWARA — A soldier was killed while two others were rescued after an avalanche hit their post in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources said that an avalanche hit Roshan Post located in Karnah sector of Tangdhar area of Kupwara in which three soldiers were buried alive.

The post belongs to 7 Rashtriya Rifles of 104 Infantry Brigade Tangdhar and the incident occurred on late Tuesday night.

Rescue operation was launched and all the three soldiers were retrieved. These soldiers were identified as Ramesh Chand, Nikhil Sharma and Gurvinder Singh.

An official said that one among these three soldiers, Nikhil Sharma was shifted to Dragmulla Army hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

The official said that his body was shifted to his native Udhampur area for cremation.
