PULWAMA — After a long spell of silence and a significant decrease in stone pelting incidents, heavy stone pelting took place at Government Degree College in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the whole college was in a state of chaos when a group of policemen on examination duty were targeted by stone-pelting students from all sides.

According to eyewitnesses, the stone-pelters hurled stones at the police from several directions at the same time. Tear gas shells and batons were used to disperse them.

A senior police official, while confirming the incident, said, “The situation is calm at the moment and more troops are deployed to avert any untoward incident.”

Meanwhile, sources privy to the incident said that the students were agitated after a detained student, namely Suhail Ahmad from Sirnoo area of Pulwama district, was brought handcuffed in order to appear in examination.

The protesting students were demanding the release of the detained college student.
