Shot - Killed - Fired with Gun

SRINAGAR — Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers including party’s Yuva Morcha General Secretary for Kulgam were killed in a militant attack in the south Kashmir district on Thursday evening.

Official sources said that militants attacked the trio at Y K Pora while they were going in a car. Soon after the attack, they were rushed to emergency hospital Qazigund, they said.

However, before the trio identified as Fida Hussain Itoo of Y.K. Pora, the General Secretary of Yuva Morcha, Umar Hajam Ramzan of Y K Pora and Haroon Rashid Beigh of Sophat Devsar could be admitted, they succumbed to the wounds on the way to the hospital, they said.

“All three of them were brought dead,” Dr Asima Nazeer, Medical Superintendent, Emergency Hospital Qazigund said.

A police officer said that investigations have been taken up while the entire area has been cordoned off.

A police spokesperson said militants fired upon three BJP workers at Eidgah Y.K. Pora due to which they got injured. “They were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment where they were declared as brought dead,” he said.

He said Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” he said.

This is the second deadliest attack on BJP workers in Kashmir Valley in less than four months.

On July 8, BJP leader and his father and brother were shot dead by militants in Bandipora district. BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari along with his brother Umar Sultan and father Bashir Ahmad Sheikh were shot dead by militants at their shop-cum-residence which falls adjacent to the main police station.
