SRINAGAR — Three militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Reban area of north Kashmir’s Sopore on Sunday.
SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal said that three militants have been killed in the operation. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained. The officer said operation is in process and searches are underway.
Earlier on Saturday night, according to reports, a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, SOG Sopore, and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Reban Sopore.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
In the initial stage of gunfire, one militant was killed. However, after hours of search operation, two more militants, who were hiding, were killed, reports added.
Srinagar based Army spokesperson, Rajesh Kalia also confirmed about the killing of three militants in Reban gunfight.
Meanwhile, authorities suspended internet services in parts of Sopore following this gunfight.
