KULGAM — Three militants were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir village of Kulgam on Wednesday.

Joint Forces including soldiers from 9 Rashtriya Rifles brought Chimmer village under siege after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the house owned by one, Muhammad Ramzan Tantray.

A police official said that the house in which militants were present was close to a religious place. Proper care was taken and people were evacuated safely.

Three unidentified militants were killed in the gunfight while reports said that two soldiers also sustained injuries.

The search operation was underway till the filing of this report. Sources said that drones were pressed into service to locate the hiding militants.

The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained. However, they are believed to be from Kulgam district and affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen.

The bodies of the militants have been retrieved while a Pistol and an AK-47 assault rifle have also been recovered.
