BUDGAM — Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested three persons for molesting a Panch woman in central Kashmir’s Khansahab area of Budgam district.

Police Station Khansahab made these arrests after receiving a written complaint from a woman (name withheld), who is a Panch of Ward 2 of Bagroo Block.

In her complaint, she stated that Block Khansahab and Block Parewa have women as Block Development Chairpersons while the husbands of both these women are meddling in the block affairs.

Showkat Ganaie of Arigam village is the husband of Block Development Council chairperson Khansahab while Mukhtar Mir of Bagroo village is the husband of BDC chairperson Parnewa.

“Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir, both informed me that BDC chairpersons of block Khansahab and Parnewa (their wives) wanted me to leave for Jammu for some Panchayat-related work. I, being the Panchayat member, obliged. Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir were accompanied by one more person Babar Khan from Ichgam. In Jammu, Showkat Ganaie and Mukhtar Mir tried to assault me sexually. Despite my resistance, they molested me,” the complainant said.

Police sources said that Police Station Khansahab took cognizance of the complaint and arrested all the three accused.

“An FIR vide number 27/2020 under sections 336, 376, 511, 354 has been registered against the accused,” a police spokesman said.
