Two drug peddlers escape from police custody in Bandipora

SRINAGAR — Two alleged drug peddlers who were arrested by Bandipora Police yesterday have escaped from the police custody in Ajas area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.

Sources said that two drug peddlers identified as Mubashir Ahmad Lone and Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Ajas have escaped from the custody of police post Ajas and the searches are on to trace them.

According to Bandipora Police, both the alleged drug peddlers were arrested yesterday with Charas, which was hidden in Maize leaves, in Bazipora area.

Meanwhile, DIG North Kashmir Sujit Kumar said that an additional FIR has been registered against the escaped drug peddlers and searches are on to trace them, adding that SSP Bandipora is himself monitoring the incident. He said he will enquire the whole incident in detail.

Earlier, a notorious drug peddler escaped from the police custody in Sumbal area of the district and was later arrested by the police.
