SRINAGAR — Two militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an overnight gunfight in Tujan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Quoting IGP Kashmir, the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “JeM terrorist Majid Nazir, killer of SI Farooq Mir has been neutralised in Pulwama encounter.”

The gunfight broke out in the wee hours today after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Later in the day, SSP Pulwama Ghulam Jeelani held a press conference in his office and said the ‘operation’ was important for the forces given the slain militant Majid Nazir’s involvement in the killing of SI Farooq Mir.

The deceased officer Farooq Ahmad Mir’s bullet-ridden body was found in a paddy field near his home in Samboora village of the south Kashmir district on Saturday (June 18) morning.
