SOPORE — Two militants were killed in an ongoing encounter that broke out between government forces and militants in Kreeri village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

The gunfight broke out hours after the forces’ party was attacked in which two CRPF men and a cop were killed.

Officials said that a joint team of Army, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the outskirts of Baramulla soon after the attack on the forces’ party.

While chasing the militants, a joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter, they said.

A police official said that contact with hiding militants has been established and firing from both sides is on, adding that two militants have been killed in the gunfight while the operation is going on.
