Srinagar: Two militants were killed in Balhama encounter that raged between security forces and militants in Khonmoh on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The Balhama encounter raged after the militants fired upon the PSOs of BJP leader, resulting in injuries to a cop who was guarding the leader.

The forces launched search operation following which the militants took shelter in the building in Balhama.

Police said that the two militants who were holed up in the building were killed in the gunfight.

“Balhama Update: Two dead bodies of the militants recovered from the site. Identity is being ascertained. Injured CRPF personnel is stable,” police tweeted on its official Twitter handle.

Later, police in its another tweet informed that the slain militants killed in the gunfight were identified as Rasiq Nabi Bhat of Tral and Shabir Dar of Awantipora.

“Balhama Update: The two militants who were killed have been identified by the families as Rasiq Nabi Bhat of Tral and Shabir Dar of Awantipora. Bodies handed over for last rites,” police tweeted this afternoon.

Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of slain militant Shabir Ahmed in Aghanzpora Awantipora area of district Pulwama on Friday.

As soon as the dead body of the slain militant reached his village, people from adjacent villages participated in the funeral prayers of the slain militant Shabir Ahmed, a resident of Aghanzpora Awantipora, who was killed during an encounter between the militants and government forces in Ballhama Khunmoh area of Pulwama district.

Amid pro-freedom sloganeering, the slain militant was laid to rest. (KNS)
