Two militants, their associate killed in gunbattle at Awantipora

SRINAGAR — Two militants and a militant associate were killed in an encounter which broke out between government forces and militants in Goripora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar (IPS) said that two militants and one militant associate were killed in the gunfight.

However, identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the IGP said.

Earlier reports reaching here said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 50 RR launched cordon and search operation in Goripora.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.

A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of firing between forces and militants.
