Two soldiers killed in ongoing gunfight in Shopian

An unidentified militant was earlier killed in the same encounter in Zainapora

SHOPIAN — In the ongoing encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian village, a militant and two soldiers have been killed so far, according to reports reaching here.

Earlier, joint forces including the soldiers from 1 Rashtriya Rifles had cordoned off Chermarg Zainapora area of Shopian after receiving inputs about the presence of militants. Police confirmed the killing of a militant in the initial exchange of fire.

Official sources said that two soldiers sustained injuries and were shifted to 92 Base Army Hospital at Badami Bagh Srinagar where they succumbed to their injuries. Sources identified the slain soldiers as Santosh Yadav and Romit Chauhan.

The gunfight was going on in the southern Kashmir area till the filing of this report.
