SRINAGAR — Union Home Minister Amit Shah is arriving on his maiden visit to Kashmir on Wednesday to have the darshan of the holy Shiv Lingum at the cave shrine of Amarnath located in the mountain range of Himalyas in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. He will also chair a high level security meet in Srinagar.

Shah, who was recently sworn in as the India’s Home Minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led newly framed Union Cabinet, was assigned the key portfolio that was earlier handled by Rajnath Singh. Rajnath was also given a coveted cabinet berth with defence portfolio.

From day one, Shah showed his keen interest in Kashmir affairs and chaired a series of meetings in New Delhi to get stock of the Kashmir situation and other developmental projects running under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

“Union Home Minister is arriving tomorrow in Kashmir. He will straight away visit the cave shrine in south Kashmir and perform Darshan there. After that, he will reach Srinagar where he is scheduled to chair a high level security meeting where top security officials have been invited,” a top official, wishing anonymity, said.

He said that Shah will review the security and later stay at the Nehru Guest House for the night. “On day two of his visit, he will meet several delegations including the Party’s core group members, Sarpanchs, Panchs and also various delegations of youth and civil society and politicians,” sources in the BJP revealed.

He will also revive the various developmental projects and pass certain important directions to the Governor Satya Pal Malik.

They said that Shah will meet the Party leaders separately and seek overall feedback over the Party’s functioning in the State especially the upcoming membership drive to be launched by the BJP. He will be flying back to New Delhi on Friday morning.
