Two arrested for alleged role in disseminating misinformation

SRINAGAR — An unregistered news group operating on WhatsApp alleged of circulating fake news was busted and two persons involved in managing the same were arrested in Kupwara district, officials said.

The officials said that J&K Police’s CIK wing busted the unregistered news group by the name “Daily News & Analysis,” with a Pakistan flag logo, circulating fake news.

“The two site admins/managers namely Zahoor Ahmad Khan and Abdul Rouf Peer, from Kupwara, were arrested for spreading rumours to disturb peace and tranquillity,” the official said.

“Several digital devices were seized from the duo, which are under investigation,” the official added.
