Will ensure peaceful Republic Day parades: IGP

SRINAGAR — Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K. Pole on Monday said that despite COVID-19 being a challenge, Republic Day will be celebrated with great fervour.

He said that all security measures have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of R-Day parades across Kashmir Valley.

“It is a national festival and everyone will celebrate it with great fervor,” he told reporters on the sidelines of full-dress rehearsal at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Sonwar Srinagar.

Inspector-General of Police, Vijay Kumar also said that they will ensure peaceful R-Day parades across Kashmir. He said Police, Army, CRPF have conducted area domination, drone surveillance of sensitive areas a week before.

“All sensitive areas have been covered and we will ensure peaceful R-Day in Srinagar and all district headquarters,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened across Kashmir Valley, particularly in Srinagar city. Check-points and mobile bunkers have been created to keep a vigil on the suspected persons. The road leading towards SK Stadium – the venue for the parade has virtually been blocked for smooth traffic.
