Woman, militant killed as gunfight rages in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — A 45-year-old woman was among two killed and a CRPF officer injured in an ongoing encounter at Batamaloo area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

A senior police officer said that a lady identified as Kounsar Riyaz of Batamaloo received bullet wound during cross-firing. She was immediately shifted to Police hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

He further said that an unidentified militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter and a Deputy Commandant of CRPF also received bullet wound and was subsequently shifted to 92 Base hospital for treatment.

According to the reports reaching here, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Batamaloo.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
