SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday ordered continued restriction of mobile data speed till April 03 taking into consideration “available alternatives”.

The Home Department said, in an order uploaded on its website, that the decision was taken “on consideration of the overall security and the reports of the law enforcement agencies inter-alia bringing out the necessity of speed related restrictions on mobile data services and upon assessment of the available alternatives”.

Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department ordered that the Internet speed shall be restricted to 2G only.

“The postpaid sim card holders shall be provided with access to the Internet. However, such access shall not be made available on pre-paid sim cards unless verified as per the norms applicable for postpaid connections,” reads an order issued here.

It said fixed line Internet connectivity with Mac-binding shall be available. “The aforesaid directions shall be effective immediately and remain in force upto 3rd April, 2020, unless modified earlier,” said the order.

The IGPs of Kashmir and Jammu respectively have been asked to ensure compliance by the service providers.
