Srinagar: Like other months, October also turned out to be bloodiest month in Kashmir Valley. At least 38 lives including two top scholars turned militants were lost this month. Among the 36 dead, 20 were militants, 12 civilians and 6 men in uniform.

October 21 like April 1 of this year witnessed 16 killings including 7 civilians, 5 militants, 3 soldiers and a trooper in Jammu and Kashmir.

Among the 20 militants killed in different encounters included Dr Manan Wani of Tikipora Lolab, Ashiq Hussain Zargar of Tulwari Langate, Shabir Ahmed from Samboora Pampore, Mehraj Bangroo of Fathekadal, Fahad Ahmed of Khanyar, Showkat Ahmed of Dagarpora Awanipora, Shahid-ul-Islam Tantray from Wangam village in Shopian, YazilMakroo from Arwani area in Bijbehara (Anantnag), Zubair Lone from Ahwatoo village in DH Pora, scholar Sabzar Ahmed Sofi of Naina and Asif Shergujri of Khiram Sirhama.

On October 19 this month, five militants were killed in two separate incidents. Three militants were killed in Pather Baramulla along with LoC while two militants were killed in Kralhar Baramulla when according to police they overstepped a check post.

This month, two workers of National Conference, Nazir Bhat and Mushtaq Wani, died after unknown gunmen opened fire in Karfali Mohalla Srinagar. Another party worker Shakeel Ahmed was critically injured.

Unknown gunmen abducted a shopkeeper Tawseef Ahmed at Tujjar Sharif Sopore whose bullet riddled body was found in an orchard.

Locals as well as separatist organizations blamed security agencies for killing of a Hurriyat activist Tariq Ahmed Ganaie who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an apple orchard of Meemandar in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Suspected militants shot dead a policeman Javaid Ahmed at Warpora Sopore while a civilian Rayees Ahmed of Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar city was killed in an encounter along with two militants. An SOG man Kamal Kishore was also killed in Fateh Kadal encounter.

At least 16 people including 7 civilians, 5 militants, 3 soldiers and a trooper were killed in different militancy related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir on October 21.

Three militants Shahid-ul-Islam Tantray from Wangam village in Shopian, Yazil Makroo from Arwani area in Bijbehara (Anantnag) and Zubair Lone from Ahwatoo village in DH Pora area of Kulgam were killed in Laru Kulgam gunfight where post gunfight 7 civilians were killed in a blast and government forces action.

The slain civilians were identified as Irshad Ahmad Pader and Tajamul Ahmad (both hailing from Shurat village); Talib Maqbool Laway and Mansoor Dar (both hailing from Laroo), Uzair Ahmad Dar from Reshipora, Javed Ahmad Lone of Hawoora village of Khudwani and Ubaid Shah from Makenpora village.

Three soldiers and two intruders were killed in Rajouri along Line of Control while militants killed an SSB Jawan Vijay Kumar in Midora Tral.

Two militants were killed in Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. (CNS)
