India's 72nd Republic Day Celebrations

SRINAGAR — The Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir passed off peacefully without any untoward incident reported in the valley.

People stayed indoors and the streets were deserted except for the thousands of police personnel and soldiers that dotted the roads.

Advisor to LG, Baseer Khan hoisted the tricolour at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium amid a three-tier-security.

Contingents from the J&K Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) took part in the parade.

Republic Day celebrations were also held in other parts of Kashmir.

In Jammu, LG Manoj Sinha took salute at the march past at the Maulana Azad Memorial Stadium amidst unprecedented multi-tier security.

In wake of the Republic Day, 2G mobile Internet was snapped across Kashmir Valley, only to be restored later in the evening on Tuesday.

All the shops and commercial centres remained shut while transport too remained off the roads. There was a spontaneous shutdown in Valley.
