PULWAMA — The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary holds an interactive meeting with the media persons of the district here on Saturday.
The representatives from the print and electronic media briefed the DC about various issues faced the media fraternity while covering events. They also put forth the demand for establishment of a Press Club at the district headquarter.
The DC assured the media persons that their genuine demands including establishment of the Club will be fulfilled on priority. He said that Revenue authorities shall be mobilized for the identification of land for the Press Club.
While interacting, DC said that media is a significant pillar in democracy for deliverance of transparent and accountable governance to people. He said district administration is always available and accessible for coordination with all stakeholders who are directly or indirectly engaged in promoting positivity, peace and well-being of people.
He added that media is the connecting link between the people and government and it is the prerogative of media fraternity to share responsibility in spreading positivity and creation of goodwill. He further added that media has a vital role in countering fake and false news besides highlighting the government welfares schemes and flagship programs.
He also hailed the role of media in fighting against the COVID-19 besides spreading genuine information regarding the vaccination program.
Earlier, the DIO Pulwama through a PowerPoint presentation briefed the participants about the Media Policy 2020 besides the the working pattern of Information Department and the contribution of local media in raising of day-to-day issues of general public.
