Srinagar: An impressive passing out parade of 140 lady constables was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur today where Director General of Police, S. P. Vaid was the Chief Guest.
In his address to the passing out lady constables, DGP said that it was very heartening to know that 140 lady constables are joining the force which will help us in strengthening the existing Police Stations in the State and also Women Cells opened in some other towns of the State.
Complementing the Director and the training staff of the Academy, Vaid said that since 60% of the batch is below the age of 25 years and 36 pass outs are having educational qualification of graduation and above, these lady constables will prove helpful in enhancing the working efficiency of Women Police Stations in the State.
DGP said that the increased number of lady constables in districts will go along in curbing the crimes against women as women complainants feel comfortable with the officers and personnel of their gender.
Referring to the various welfare measures, DGP said that although a number of welfare measures have been taken for the constables such as increase in selection grade constable quota and removing of pay anomaly, having tie up with J&K Bank and SMVD Narayana Hospital, many more measures are in pipeline for the benefit of J&K police personnel.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Director Academy M. Sulaiman Salaria, IPS, IGP gave a resume of the training activities in general and regarding the training of passing out lady constables in particular. He thanked PHQ J&K for full co-operation and assistance for the overall development of the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur due to which Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur is successfully conducting basic and pre-promotional courses for J&K Police personnel as well as specialised courses on various themes not only for J&K Police personnel but for the officers of other departments like Judiciary, JKAS, Forest Protection force etc in addition to the routine courses of the Academy and the courses sponsored by BPR&D, NHRC & NISD New Delhi.
S. P. Vaid, IPS, DGP J&K gave away prizes to the outstanding trainees of the batch. Lady Constable Ishrat Ahad, 1318/Gbl was promoted Out of Turn for securing All Round Best position during the training. She was also rewarded for 1st position in Range Classification (firer) with DGP’s Commendation Certificate Class 1st alongwith cash reward of Rs. 7500/-.
Lady Constable Anu Radha, 697/IRP-1st was rewarded for securing 2nd All Round best position and 1st position in outdoor with Commendation Certificates Class 1st with cash reward of Rs. 17500/- (Rs. 10,000 + Rs. 7500).
Lady Constable Suman Kumari, 3073/J, was rewarded for securing 3rd All Round Best position, with Commendation Certificate Class 1st and cash reward of Rs. 7500/- where as lady Constable Simmy Khana, 825/AP 14th was rewarded for securing 1st in indoor position with Commendation Certificate Class 1st alongwith cash reward of Rs. 7500/-.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was presented a memento as a memorabilia for his visit to the Academy as Chief Guest of the occasion.
