Asifa's Rape & Murder: Desh Bhagat University students protest in Chandigarh

Punjab: Students of Desh Bhagat University Chandigarh today held a protest outside the university campus demanding justice for Asifa, the eight-year-old girl who was gang-raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir and the teenager in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, who was allegedly raped by a BJP lawmaker in June last year.

The students carried placards with slogans like “Justice delayed is justice denied”, “United against rape”, “Stop shielding rapists” et cetera. The protesting students also chanted slogans demanding justice for the two victims.

“We want the government to shift these cases to special courts so that the justice prevails. We have full faith in the constitution and courts of the country but we want justice to be given as soon as possible and create an example so that such heinous acts are not done again. The government should act on the atrocities against the women in the country,” youth activist, Mohsin Andrabi who is a student of Public Administration in the university said on the occasion.

“The nation needs to join hands for a change, the law makers need to bring a change in the constitution, harsh laws are needed so that such things don’t get repeated,” Mohsin tweeted earlier.

Another student, Junaid who is pursuing MBA said, “How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil? What happened to Asifa at Kathua is a crime against humanity. The whole country wants justice. Justice delayed is justice denied. Courts and police need to act swiftly in punishing the culprits”.

“Religion and politics should not be made a barrier in delivering justice to the victims,” Showkat, another MBA student said.

Adil, a student said that “the state government should take strict action against the rapists of Asifa and cluprits should not be forgiven in any case”.
