10 PDP leaders booked for violating COVID-19 SOPs

SRINAGAR — Former minister and senior PDP leader Abdul Reham Veeri and nine others were booked for violating COVID-19 protocol by organizing a ‘rally’ in Bijbehara on the eve of 6th death anniversary of PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayed.

“It is to intimate that the following persons/organizers of Peoples Democratic Party organized a large gathering on 07.01.2022 at the tomb of Ex. CM Mufti Mohammad Syed at Padshah Bagh Zirpara Bijbehara in complete violation of SOPs and COVID appropriate behaviour which may result in spreading of COVID-19 and other related epidemic,” reads a communique of Tehsildar Bijbehara to Police and administration, a copy of which lies with news agency KDC.

It further reads, “The organizers are Ab Rahman Bhat @ Veeri S/O Gh Qadir A/P Housing Colony Khanabal, Javaid Ahmad Sheikh S/O Saidullah Sheikh R/O A/P Housing Colony Khanabal, Najmun Saqib S/O Gulzar Ahmad Shah R/O Idd Gah Bijbehara, Sartaj Madni S/O Gh Mustafa Nazim A/P Housing Colony Khanabal, Majid Ahmad Khan S/O Gh Nabi Khan R/O Bijbehara, Ab Majeed Rangraiz S/O Ab Aziz R/O Bijbehara, Showkat Ahmad Teeli S/O Mohd Ismail R/O Bijbehara, Mufti Sarwar S/O Mufti Sharif Ud Din R/O Bijbehara, Arshid Ahmad Ganie S/O Farooq Ahmad Ganie R/O Bijbehara, Nazir Ahmad Vaid S/O Gh Ahmad Vaid R/O Bijbehara.”

A police official confirmed to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that 10 leaders have been booked under FIR number 4/2022 under Section 188, 269 for violating the COVID SOPs at the graveyard of late Mufti Syed in Bijbehara in southern Anantnag.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said, “COVID-19 restrictions apply only to PDP, not to BJP. “Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PMs rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volumes about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.
