Leh: Polling for the fifth Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, today held to elect 26 new councilors for LAHDC Leh.

The voting started at 8 AM with a good number of voters reported in the morning at almost all the polling stations in Leh and surrounding villages. The voter turnout of 65.17 polling percentages was indicative of the enthusiasm among the voters, especially, women who turned out in greater numbers at most of the polling booths in and around Leh town.

93-year-old Abhi Dolma from Skara was among the oldest voters who came to the polling booth to cast a vote today. A large number of young voters were also witnessed during the polling that went peacefully across the district. The figures of percentage are tentative and are expected to rise as certain polling stations are still to give their result.

The candidates from Congress, BJP, NC, PDP and New Ladakh Movement are in the fray apart from the independent candidates.

The counting of votes scheduled on October 23 which will decide the fate of 90 candidates. In this election, a significant number of women candidates are contesting from different constituencies, setting a new trend towards their participation in the decision-making process in the council in the district.
