BJP names Sunil Sharma as Leader of Opposition in J-K Assembly

SRINAGAR — In a significant development for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu & Kashmir, senior party leader Tarun Chugh confirmed the nomination of Sunil Sharma as the Leader of Opposition.

During his address to media persons, Chugh expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the National Party President, J.P. Nadda, for their leadership.

He stated, “The public has bestowed their blessings upon us, which is a reflection of the effective policies and work carried out by PM Modi over the past few years.”

The nomination of Sunil Sharma received unanimous support from senior leaders, including Dr Dhwinder Manyal and Surjit Singh Salatiya, he said.

Chugh highlighted the significance of this leadership change, calling it a historic moment for the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, especially after the revocation of Article 370.

He noted, “This is the first opportunity that a Chief Minister or Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Parliament has taken the oath of the Indian Constitution, as envisioned by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.”

Chugh reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to protecting the rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, stating, “The BJP legislative party will remain a protector of the rights of the people, advancing their interests and fulfilling its responsibilities.”
