SRINAGAR — Amid politically heightened atmosphere for upcoming DDC, Panchayat by-elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the District Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party for Pulwama resigned from the basic membership of the party.

Shabir Ahmad Wani son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Prichoo Pulwama, who was holding the charge of District Vice President Pulwama for BJP, tendered his resignation from the basic membership of the party on Wednesday late afternoon.

Shabir also announced his resignation on popular social networking site Facebook and wrote, “I forward this statement, keeping my all guts active and with my own will and wish. I resign from the basic membership of BJP today on 18-11-2020.”

“I hope from the mentioned date, I may be considered out of the BJP party’s basic membership and my portfolio,” he added.

Pertinently, State Election Commission is all set to conduct an eight-phased poll to 20 District Development Councils (DDCs) and vacant Panchayat and Municipal seats, in the first major electoral exercise since the effective nullification of Article 370 in August last year.
