Dead people find place in voter list in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — The voters’ slip has been issued to dead people in Ward 46 Islam Yarbal in Eidgah Constituency for the polling in Srinagar.

These people have died more than five years back, but still they have found their place in the revised voters’ list, while at the same time many alive residents’ name got omitted from the list.

While displaying the voter list, the locals said that Muhammad Lateef Khan from Islam Yarbal ward has died some five years ago but his name still figures in the voter list.

Similarly, there is a couple namely Abdul Samad Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz and his wife Jana Begum who are dead but their names still figure in the voter list. This couple is from the same Islam Yarbal ward.

Locals said there are dozens of people from the same ward who are alive but their names are missing from the voter list.

Sources said that the revised voters’ list, which was prepared after spending crores, is again full of anomalies, leaving a lot of scope for fake voting.
