Geelani calls for strike on May 29

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman and senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has called for a one day strike on May 29 in memory of the Shopian tragedy which threw the state into complete turmoil in the year 2008. According to a statement issued by the hardliner separatist amalgam, the octogenarian leader has urged people not to forget the tragedy that befell the Shopian families and asked people to pray for the souls of the two young girls to rest in peace. Geelani, according to the statement, said that the mainstream politicians are trying their level best to hoodwink the world opinion apart from trying to make people forget the sacrifices offered by the Kashmiri people in pursuit of freedom. Geelani also said that according to him the Shopian incident was not the first of its kind and that many such incidents in the past have been suppressed by force. Calling the calm in the state as enforced peace, Geelani has alleged the security apparatus of committing atrocities on common people. KNS
