Srinagar, Apr 04: Hurriyat Conference (G) has called for complete shutdown on April 7, Saturday, against the awarding of two-year imprisonment sentence to the Kashmir American Council Chairman Ghulam Nabi Fai by a US Court. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of amalgam’s advisory council held here today with its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in chair. The meeting was attended by the leaders and representatives of all the constituent units of Hurriyat Conference. The members on the occasion appealed to all the people in general and the traders, transporters and employees’ unions in particular to make the proposed shutdown call a success to convey a loud and clear message to Dr Fai that he was not alone in his fight for Kashmir cause but the whole Kashmiri nation stood shoulder-to-shoulder to him. Discussing at length all the aspects of the US court verdict, the advisory council members felt with concern that it (verdict) was more of political nature than legal. “New Delhi’s lobbying in America got Dr Fai trapped in its net. This is an attempt to malign the ongoing movement in Kashmir,” the Hurriyat (G) spokesman quoted Geelani as having said. Describing him (Dr Fai) as Kashmiris’ ambassador, Geelani said, “Dr Fai has been actively highlighting the Kashmiris’ peaceful struggle in the world at diplomatic levels for the past several years.”
