Lok Sabha polls from April 11 as Assembly polls delayed in J&K

SRINAGAR — Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases from April 11, the Election Commission of India announced on Sunday.

The rest of six phases will be held on April 18, 23, 29 and May 6, 12, 19.

The Election Commission announced the schedule for the high-voltage Lok Sabha elections in New Delhi.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Sunday said only Lok Sabha elections will be held for now in Jammu and Kashmir.

Arora said the decision about the state Assembly elections will be taken later. He said schedule was only announced for Lok Sabha in the wake of recent violent events.

The Jammu and Kashmir political parties had batted for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and will be held over seven phases followed by counting of votes on May 23, the Election Commission announced on Sunday.
