SRINAGAR — At a day, when authorities freed Chairman Jammu Kashmir People’s Conference Sajjad Lone, it extended the detention period of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti by three more months under contentious Public Safety Act (PSA).
Principal Secretary Home, Shaleen Kabra in this regard has issued a formal order that talks about the extension in the detention period of Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti was initially detained on August 05 last year when the Government of India abrogated special status of the erstwhile State and bifurcated it into two Union territories-Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Having spent over eight months in detention at two government facilities that were designated as sub-jails, Mehbooba Mufti was shifted to her home on April 07 this year.
She heads the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which was in power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with the BJP till June 2018.
Initially, she was taken into preventive custody. Later on February 05 this year, she was slapped with the PSA along with Omar Abdullah, who was released in March. Farooq Abdullah has also been released.
Earlier, Mufti was lodged a government guest house in Chashma Shahi and a bunglow on Maulana Azad Road near Lal Chowk.
