RAFIABAD — The National Conference-backed candidates on Thursday won Panchayat by-elections held in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A senior National Conference (NC) leader said that candidates affiliated with the party have won eight out of nine Sarpanch seats for which the results have been declared so far.

The party-backed candidate has also won Sarpanch seat of Ladoora Rafiabad by more than 300 votes.

It is worthwhile to mention that former minister and National Conference district president Javaid Ahmad Dar had vigorously campaigned for candidates of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) during the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) elections.

Apart from campaigning for his party’s DDC candidate Shabir Ahmad Lone, Dar also sought for Paramjeet Kour (Peoples Conference) and Qurat-ul-Bashir (Peoples Democratic Party).
